In run-up to the 1964 election, civil rights leaders including Martin Luther King Jr. were given an audience with incumbent president Lyndon Johnson, where he asked them to scale down their protest activity until after the election so he could be confident he could win. They understood correctly that by continuing to protest, they had political leverage.
Imagine an alternative reality where LBJ had not signed the Civil Rights Act, and instead Barry Goldwater had won and increased the segregation and discrimination facing African-americans. Would you blame them for using the only electoral political leverage they had available, and laugh at their misfortune?
The only check the worst excesses of the Trump presidency has is the potential for widespread civil unrest. The Democrats aren’t capable of that. Grassroots Palestinian-american organizations are. In building that base of resistance, we shouldn’t make the same mistakes that caused the Democrats to lose the election. In the words of Nate Silver:
Democrats…often get angry with you when you only halfway agree with them. And I really think this difference in personality profiles tells you a little something about why Trump won: Trump was happy to take on all comers, whereas with Democrats, disagreement on any hot-button topic (say, COVID school closures or Biden’s age) will have you cast out as a heretic. That’s not a good way to build a majority, and now Democrats no longer have one.
Abbas Alawieh is concerned for the lives of his family and friends under another Trump regime. We all are. He is one of us.
Small clarification, @MindTraveller participated in that thread, but was banned while a comment of theirs was removed in a separate post. That’s why they’re not included in the list.
They kind of undersold their message by giving the vlogger jeans that had merely been cut to fit rather than using their robotic weaving method.
It would be very impressive if they could spin denim, but I suspect that’s currently outside of their envelope. It may only be usable for sweaters or something.
From LW, yeah. They still federate with us though. And honestly, I get it.
Welcome!

How does that mesh with investing in solar energy production and growing enough food for people to survive?
I realize you have other factors to contend with, so I respect your design decisions. I’m guessing your latitude is about 45 degrees north based on the make of your car. For other people inspired to do something similar, 10 degrees is way too shallow even for summer. You’ll get much more current if you raise it to 20 or 30 degrees, especially in a neighborhood with this much wind gust protection. A good rule of thumb with what looks like an adjustable angle roof is latitude - 15 degrees in the summer, and latitude +15 degrees in the winter.
You’ll have more than enough volts to start the inverter during winter mornings, but during the rest of the summer, direct wire some DC fans to blow on the back of the panels. Heat is voltage poison.
The named people are merely the central facilitators of the scheme. The general lack of consequences for the uber-wealthy named in the papers has been an ongoing theme, the lackeys getting away without a conviction is just the cherry on top.

At the last family reunion, my mother and I were in charge of making all the food. We spent 3 days getting all of the groceries, and stacked fruits and vegetables in the family room, filled the bathtub with ice to keep the meat, and stacked the drinks in the garage.
We fried the meat, boiled the noodles, mixed the salad, and cooked the chili. The entire counter and range were covered in pots and pans. Most of the intermediate cookware had been rinsed and was in the process of going through the dish cycle while we were setting tables out in the yard, when my Mom realized she hadn’t made any red pea soup. Her brother was flying in from the island for the occasion and she knew it was his favorite. The bag of peas had hid under a couch pillow, and we missed it while making the rest of the meal.
We didn’t have enough time to wait for the cleaning cycle to finish, so I dumped out a shallow stainless steel flower vase and put that over the flame. There was no time to soak the peas, so my mom just mixed them raw with the broth, yams, carrots, milk, and spices, and then transferred them to a clean bowl once the cycle was complete. The soup didn’t look right, though. The peas and broth are supposed to have a full ruddy color, but the result was a much darker red like a beet.
When uncle arrived he was really pleased to see we’d kept him in mind, but after the event was over and everyone had gone home, we found a pile of wet peas dumped behind some bushes. I learned a very important lesson that day: Those who make peas full-red solution in posse bowl, make violet-red solution inedible.

The biodigester is really cool. Helping neighbors pick grapes is praxis.
The title is auto-populated from the site’s meta information. The meta title is usually the same as the article title. In this case it’s not:
<meta property="og:title" content="New Caledonia riots: France declares state of emergency, bans TikTok"/>
There’s no conspiracy to report deceptive headlines; it’s probably just an alternate title in the website code that wasn’t changed with the other content after the article was already in print.
Also, where else has this been posted? I don’t see any cross-posts.
I saw a report on a gym with the idea that the exercise equipment would power the gym. It wasn’t a good business model. They brought the reporter in and only turned on some of the lights - they had to be super stingy with electricity to get anywhere near net positive energy generation.
According to the Hurun Global Rich List 2023, China housed the highest number of billionaires worldwide in 2023. In detail, there were 969 billionaires living in China. By comparison, 691 billionaires resided in the United States. India, Germany, and the United Kingdom were also the homes of a significant number of billionaires that year.
