  • Hmm…there is difference between being lonely and alone. Alone is pretty much what you described.

In any case, I agree about having freedom. My friends and family have different taste, or just boring and less adventurous, or became jaded with life to do anything. And as someone with anendophasia, I like to take my time to explore and absorb my surroundings. I can’t exactly do that with someone who could be impatient and cannot appreciate what I see.

  • Hell must be freezing right now with FoxNews even calling out Trump. With tumbling stock market, I did not think that “voting with your wallet” actually works.

I am more curious as to what will Democrats do next in light of Trump admin’s first hundred and more gaffes. Will the Democrats learn from their mistakes and reform? Or will they exploit Trump’s gaffes like during Covid, but learn nothing and the Republicans will field someone worse for the next election (assuming there will be a next election)? Or, at worse, will Democrats continue to enable Trump like they are now with Chuck Schumer?

You get different answers depending on who you ask. Of course, those on the left despise her for good reasons, which others have already mentioned.

Then on the one hand, there is argument to be made that her deregulation did save UK from bankruptcy at the time of financial turmoil catalysed by the 1970s oil crisis. The deregulation, of course, made her a darling among the right because it also made businesses more flexible.

Another bit to note is that, whether you are left or right, it is undeniable she handled the Falklands War impressively. That is commendable regardless of one’s political leaning.

  • We can see how we can benefit from it, once most of the value it produces no longer ends in the owner class’es pocket.

Yup, indeed. Remember when social media was celebrated as what enabled bottom up revolution in the Middle East 1 ? Well, a lot of people forgot about that, since big brained profiteers realised they can commercial people’s personal data and sell them to entities that will weaponise the innate dark insecurities of the people to influence public policies.

1 I am aware that the Arab Spring largely failed, but so did the Revolutions of 1848. In spite of failures, I believe that the ideas have been planted and will be nurtured for future generations to reap. Even though the liberal revolutions failed in Europe, the liberal values they tried to champion are now in place in Europe. I believe the same will happen in the Middle East but it will take generations to materialise.

  • My parents thought having a degree alone will land you a job. By the time I graduated, the paradigm had shifted and interviewers are asking if I had any previous work experience to prove that I have good work ethic. Problem is, growing up, my parents never allowed me to work so I never had anything to show for. Even after graduation, they advised me against getting any jobs “underneath” me. It took awhile before I went against my parents advise and finally getting a job related to my degree. The trails of bad advise did not even stop at job-seeking but that will be another long story.

In any case, I realised that my parents are a bunch of insecure nouveau riche (they grew up poor and I can sense they have hint of elitism now that they moved up the socioeconomic ladder) who did not set me up for life well. I told myself I won’t listen to them and rail against them giving me any more advise. I think they realised their mistakes a bit too late now.

    Edit: a word
