  • My (large) fridge hasn’t even pulled 1kWh today. Modern fridges are impressively efficient.

I’m steadily electrifying my life - and adding solar panels as I go.

Solar is already super modular and if you package the panels, then you rob the consumer of the ability to pick a panel that works for them (physical size for example, but where you live will also have a big impact on capacity requirements). Also, solar panels have a lifespan that exceeds most consumer appliances. I just replaced a ten year old stove but my solar panels have a 25 year warranty. The replacement cadence is very different.

  • I tackle this two ways.

I ensure that I have a progress pride bracelet, pin, or other clearly visible symbol of allieship on me at all times. I also have prominently displayed safe space signage around my office. There should be zero ambiguity of my support - my hope is that this both makes 2SLGBTQIA+ and any other marginalized individuals feel welcome around me, and I also find it reduces inappropriate jokes or comments from the broader organization. People KNOW that I will make a stink if they are assholes. I try to ensure a safe bubble around me.

The other thing I do is try to make it clear to my team that I care about them as people - they aren’t cogs in a machine.

Ultimately, it’s up to my team members to decide if talking with me will help or hurt. I just try to make sure that my door is wide open.

  • I wanted kids when I was younger, but wasn’t ready to give up my freedom. Once I was ready for kids the world (and the future in particular) looks so bleak that it doesn’t seem fair to the theoretical kiddo to say ‘hey, here’s a dumpster fire - good luck’. Instead I babysit for my friends and family, spoil the kids around me, and sleep in on the weekend. I also have more time for activism and trying to ensure a brighter future for kiddos.

    No regrets.

  • My partner and I foster a lot of cats. Some of the sweetest cats take forever to get adopted just because they aren’t kittens anymore. One of our fosters has been with us for almost three years now - just because he isn’t a kitten and needs some inexpensive meds sprinkled on his food once a day.

  • Deeply wish the Canadian government would do the same. Blind support-at-all-costs does nothing to further peace. I think the Hamas attack was reprehensible, but Hamas does not speak for all Palestinians, just like Israel does not speak for all Jews.

Israel is engaged in collective punishment at best (a war crime) or genocide at worst (a war crime). A negotiated settlement is clearly not viable given remarks by the Israeli government.

I am Jewish. My family is Jewish. My grandparents survived concentration camps and genocide. Despite their experiences, they lived lives of compassion. They would abhor the actions of the Israeli government - as do the rest of my family. Criticism of Israel is not antisemitism. It is criticism of a government.
