I’m personally not a fan of brostep, but I will admit that skrillex was an early pioneer of the scene, and a lot of modern edm is shaped around that era (which is moreso around the start of mainstream edm imo). A lot of the first exposure of edm for people was through early internet culture, which a major portion was mlg memes and a lot of brostep. For me, if it wasn’t for brostep, I wouldn’t have color bass (one of my favorites atm along with just good ol dnb). Even brostep brought a resurgence in traditional (-ish) dubstep in the form of teardown and riddim (not much 2 step though)
