Canada is tied to the US whether we like it or not, with most of our exports going there due to proximity. If the USD falls 30%, in order to spurn domestic manufacturing in the US, we are screwed, since we are fully tethered to that wagon.

Maybe thats why he assumes we will give in, being worth 70 cents on the dollar to a currency that is falling to 70 cents on the dollar seems like quite a blow, and what does that do to our bond market and corresponding housing bubble?

I don’t even understand why he’s bothering to talk to this moron. Follow the Chinese example. Cut them off, and refuse to take their calls. Until Trump can learn to grow the fuck up, treat him like the spoiled child that he is. Just ignore him until he’s done throwing his tantrum.

China doesn’t share a land border with the U.S.

Yeah he’s a spoiled child, but spoiled children are stupid and easily manipulatable. I think it’s better for Canada if Carney manipulates Trump to draw Trump’s attention away from Canada, rather than try to stonewall and let Trump’s handlers control the narrative.

Canada doesn’t have to be dependent on the US either. It’s about convenience. It’s always been easier to do business with them, because they’re so close. But that’s simply not the case anymore. We need to find more reliable trade partners.

It’s not a quick or easy task to disentangle decades of integration.

While that work is in progress, we still need to do what we can to limit the damage tRump’s random flailing does to our country.

Shifting trade partnerships take many years, we need to buy time with Trump and go back to manufacturing products

He handled it about as well as he could have. He was never going to get big concessions.

He placated Trump, told him we’re not for sale, and then said a few things that sound like compliments if you don’t listen too closely.

I was worried he was going to get Zelenski’d and have a shouting match.

Trump really sounds like a used salesman.

“You’ll get the protection of the 3 year warranty, well, we give you the warranty anyway, if you’re ever in trouble”
