“The FCC chair is clearly undertaking an effort to bully and intimidate independent journalism, which is a hallmark of authoritarian regimes where democracy is under siege,” said one critic.
sadly, nothing new-- the last administration was directly funding and covering for israel’s extermination campaign- well over 200 journalists killed in the last year… but yes, this is more of the same in a more domestic and less murderous sense.
Folks? This is the imperial boomerang. What we do overseas comes home!
Israel is the laboratory. What they test there will come back to us eventually. Do not be shocked when Trump drone strikes a “migrant caravan” or something.
This is the slowest fucking death I could have ever imagined enduring
Considering how quickly NPR prostrated themselves to Trump as soon as the FCC inquiry started I’d say the press isn’t all that free.
Trump is destruction and retribution.
That’s all he’s been doing.
He also sells off all the broken peices of our society to his rich owners.
I can’t wait for all of the republicans at work to be told what to think. I’ll enjoy hearing how they try to sell me on PBS being biased.
It has educational programs?
I’m usually not big on hate and it seems like a lot of wasted effort. And I can generally understand where people are coming from even if I don’t agree with them.
But not this guy. I fucking hate him. I have never hated a person more in my entire life. He is the most useless piece of the most vile excrement and I will relish the day he is “shuffled off his mortal coil”.
Him and Elon need to go. Yesterday.
Honestly Elon scares me a little more. He’s not a complete moron (don’t get me wrong he’s close) and can easily manipulate the other dude.
In my opinion, I’m not sure this country will last 4 years of this. I had forgotten the daily rage I felt in his first term and this seems worse. And we are less than three months in. And god forbid RFK is confirmed and we have another pandemic. It will not end well.
“I am concerned that NPR and PBS broadcasts could be violating federal law by airing commercials,” Carr wrote. “I have asked the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau, with assistance from the FCC’s Media Bureau, to initiate an investigation into the underwriting announcements and related policies of NPR, PBS, and their broadcast member stations.”
Such an investigation is long overdue. My local NPR station broadcasts nothing but commercials.
Is this sarcasm? Sponsorships are not the same as ads.
Not sure what practical difference there is between a sponsorship and an ad. Anytime I try to listen to my local public radio, each and every segment starts off with “this report brought to you by …blah blah blah…”
Do you never listen to any other radio stations? You know, like pretty much every other radio station out there that has a good 3-4 actual fully-produced (and often highly irritating) radio commercials every 15 minutes?
Also, please explain how public radio is supposed to survive without corporate underwriters. Especially now that the meager amount of federal funding they get is about to be taken away from them.
