I have no idea what any of this means.
Mobile apps that have “died” - Voyager still lives on, stronger.
By died, it means no longer being maintained.
I actually found out about this a few days ago. I suddenly kept getting errors and found out the app i used, Boost, hadn’t been updated in almost a year… Now running Voyager. How did i not notice? No idea.
I am using sync
Me too but it’s semi-broken right now and hasn’t had an update in a long time. I really don’t want to switch, though.
I finally uninstalled it the other day. It’s clear the dev has abandoned it.
Same here, but it does feel like the app has been abandoned by the developer
I wish I could say I was surprised. The sync dev fucked me in a premium reddit license years ago when they invalidated the existing licenses and made people pay again for the premium to keep having it on reddit.
Glad I went with voyager over them.
Why pay when many app are free with no ads ?
I use Connect and love it.
I paid because it had been a good app and I wanted to support the dev. But I won’t make that mistake for them again.
Same
Is sync killing your battery???
I still rock wefwef. Web client apps are just cool
Wefwef is Voyager. My app still says wefwef too :)
Right, but it’s not an app from the App Store. From what I understand, there is an actual “app” and there’s wefwef, which is just a browser pointed at lemmy with some magic applied. I always get prompted to try the complete experience by downloading the app, but I’ve refused thus far.
I’m using Memmy right now and honestly had no clue that it’s dead!
Boost was my favourite client to use back on the reddit days. I migrated to lemmy before boost was announced for lemmy, but man it’s a big help having it.
Booooost
Boost gang in here! Heck, I still use it for Reddit as well.
I’m loving boost for the most part
Avelon is dead? Using it right now…
People seem to have moved to Arctic
For release dates and complete list: https://www.lemmyapps.com/
Thanks I’ll check it out Avelon is still decent but it’s likely I can get a better experience somewhere else
I can’t even remember what the kbin app was. Artemis?
I’ve been using connect and it’s pretty great!
It has been great and is the UI that I want to use however it has slowly been slipping downhill over the last year and a half. That last update from this week has fucked more things than it fixed and introduced new issues as well.
I want it to be great. I want it to work properly but the dev is barely active popping in every 6 months or so to drop an update that might make it better but probably make it worse. It was a better app experience 18 months ago, that’s for sure.
I’ve moved over to trying Voyager because of all this and it is the closest to connect I can find so far.
Where Boost?
Boost was more recently updated on July 14, 2024.
I’m still using it. Now, some activity would be very much appreciated. Or, if there is no new development, the source code. But it’s still the app I prefer to use.
Still using Sync here, what exactly am I missing out on? Tried voyager years ago but coming from Reddit and using Sync for that, it was a pretty natural jump.
Here is a comment I made in a relevant thread, where they discuss sync (here: https://lemmy.world/comment/14130358)
As someone who used sync on reddit for many years, I switched to Summit a few weeks ago and it’s great. This post comparing a lot of lemmy apps made me finally take the plunge: https://lemmy.world/post/18159531
TLDR: A lot of formatting is messed up on sync.
It hasn’t been updated in quite awhile, and I have heard some Lemmy features are still broken - I think some types of inline images and markdown mainly, and some upcoming api changes may break it completely in the nearish future.
I was in the same boat; I’ve been using sync for years. Recently, I’ve definitely noticed issues with certain instances and comment sections. Search was also completely broken. According to what I’ve read, it appears to be a version mismatch issue. Since sync hasn’t been updated in a year, I’ve cancelled my subscription and moved over to Summit.
Jerboa is still here baby lfg
(No surprise though sense it is maintined by lemmy devs iirc)
This is a clever way to do a survey on user’s preferred mobile clients
Hyello, Russian hackeЯs of Internet Research Agency. I use iPhone Plus for Lyemmikov. Please and spaceeba, ya blaka. Kak de la!
.ml admin?
Thunder is my preferred client, with jerboa being second
Honestly thunder is perfect aside from being a tad slow to load sometimes. And it seems to have a little more tendency to experience network issues, but the UI is everything I could ask for
Jerboa might be my favorite if it showed full size link previews since I usually engage visually before I engage with text
Another endorsement of Thunder here. Just works, no bloat.
Yeah, one of the big fears with moving to a small platform like Lemmy was that the apps wouldn’t be nearly as good the Reddit ones, but Thunder is just genuinely fantastic.
If anything I’d say Lemmy has better and more varied apps than Reddit did.
the reddit app ecosystem on android was genuinely fantastic until they started squeezing the devs. RES is also an incredible frontend layer that i haven’t seen imitated anywhere on lemmy.
