I always liked tinkering with shit. Modding gameboys, custom fw on my phones and psp… It was the next logical step.

I had the same issue. What I found is that when I run gnome or KDE, I don’t get any dropped frames. XFCE, Openbox setups, Cinnamon & Mate on the other hand all had the frame drop issue. I managed to fix it in XFCE through playing around with the compositor settings, no luck in any of the other DEs tho.
No, you don’t need anything else. Activation works the same if you log into your ms account or you can simply use https://massgrave.dev/ . I’m pretty sure there’s a way to get your key and enter it manually but I haven’t tried that yet.
