I believe there is an object called a brown sub-dwarf which jupiter would clasify IF it wasn’t part of a planetary system that basically represents the smallest type of failed star, however since jupiter formed from a protoplanetary disc it is indeed a planet. It really is a bit of an issue with our classifications that they’re context dependant though. E.g the moon on its own could be a dward planet, earth orbiting at the same distance as pluto would also be a dwarf planet even with no other changes.

I recently discovered windows actually has a set of far more specific troubleshooters which actually provide useful information about a problem but you have to dig around in legacy settings to find them.

I wouldn’t be surprised if China spent more on AI development than the west did, sure here we spent tens of billions while China only invested a few million but that few million was actually spent on the development while out of the tens of billions all but 5$ was spent on bonuses and yachts.

The US is also a regulations haven compared to other developed economies, corporations get away with shit in most places but America is on a whole other level of regulatory capture.

This is why we need to ensure everyone knows about jury nullifcation so it can no longer be a reason for keeping someone off a jury.

For it to be a totally fair test you’d be testing the worlds population in an open book exam since the model likely has every history book they could find in its training data.

Most tests I’ve seen suggest about a 5% frame drop but a quality increase of the equivelent to one tier. So performance now looks as pretty as balanced, balanced now looks as good as quality. So you can either drop a few frames for a sharper look or turn it down one step to keep your old visual quality but with a nice chunk of extra frames.

I could live without all the news and stuff, and I do just ignore it when it gets too much. The ability to communicate with other people across the entire world however is something I really appreciate.

The only way I can see gold becoming cheap being a problem for me is due to it being a problem for rich people and them making it my problem.

On one side I see americans talking about taking over greenland like it’d be a new old west style frontier, on the other side I see northern europe increasingly warming up to landmines again. Not for me but seems like a win overall? People are generally far less willing to hurt/fight people they know well compared to some nebulous concept of a nation. If American and Chinese people get to know eachother in a social setting it can only be a good thing.

I like to think this is the start of something important, Musks gaming account, realising that we can seriously sidetrack Trump by calling him the vice president and weird. The public is learning how to enact our own kind of political manipulation.

Hence the reason it’s not a real intelligence (yet) even a goldfish can do problem solving without first having to be equipped with god like levels of prior knowledge about the entire universe.

Interestingly, infinite context memory is functionally identical to learning.

Except for still being incapable of responding to anything not within that context memory, todays models have zero problem solving skills; or to put it another way they’re incapable of producing novel solutions to new problems.

Okay but in casual conversation I probably couldn’t spot a really good LLM on a thread like this, but on the back end that LLM is completely incapable of learning or changing in any meaningful way, its not quite a chinese room as previously mentioned but it’s still a set model that can’t learn or understand context, even with infinite context memory it could still only interact with that data within the confines of the original model.

e.g. I can train the model to understand a spoon and a fork, it will never come up with that idea of a spork unless I re-train it to include the concept of sporks or directly tell it. Even after I tell it what a spork is it can’t infer the properties of a spork based on a fork or a spoon without additional leading prompts by me.
