  • These are nice and all, but honestly the main issue I’ve seen as a new player (PC) is NPCs clipping through floors. They’ll just be standing there waist-deep in the ground.

I know that’s pretty minor compared to the T-posing and broken pathing way back at launch, but it’s still fairly disruptive, especially if it happens in a story mission.

  • When we’re talking about molecules, millions is usually an extreme understatement. PPB (parts per billion) is a common measure for contaminants.

But PPB is still an enormous quantity. Remember Avogadro’s number (used to relate count to grams) is on the 10^23 scale (aka thousands of billions of trillions). Even 999 million is a drop in the ocean there.

EDIT: The journal abstract lists the leached nanoparticles as 10^9 (billions) per mL, and the uptake by human-derived intestine cells as 100 micrograms/mL. So yeah this is coverage by a journalist who can’t math.

  • Also, water is an amazing coolant. At the molecular level its hydrogen bonding contributes to a bulk property called heat capacity that ends up much higher than most other substances, meaning it can soak up a ton of energy per unit volume (and later release that energy, e.g. into a turbine). And there’s even more of that heat capacity in the phase transition from liquid to steam and back. It’s crazy good.

It’s also super cheap and abundant. The main reason water isn’t the coolant for nearly everything is that it can be corrosive. Also steam can be quite dangerous due to all that energy it carries.
