I hope we’ve conclusively proven that theory to be false. Throw this on top of the theory that, as nations industrialise, they naturally democratise and become more peaceful. China has categorically proven this false.
This is likely correct, but given this, support should be much lower than it is.
Literally every rebellion is fueled by terrorism.
I strongly disagree, but I suspect this will quickly devolve into an argument about the semantics of “terrorism.” So I’ll focus on this part: “intentionally murder innocent civilians.” I do not agree that all successful rebellions required the intentional murder of innocent civilians.
I can’t sympathise with murderous rapists. I can’t imagine any common ground. I sympathise with the peaceful people of Palestine. Those few who don’t support Hamas.
All Western governments need to evaluate “aid” to countries like Palestine. Billions are sent each year to countries like Afghanistan, and it’s immediately used to oppress, abuse, and murder women and minorities. We need to stop funding terrorists and pretending to be surprised when they use our funds to terrorise people.
I’ve always leaned towards the side of Palestine, but no more. Hamas has been assaulting, raping, and murdering innocent people. Where’s the military strategy in that? How does that help Palestinians reclaim stolen land? There’s just no reason and no excuse. The Palestinian people broadly support Hamas, so it’s not like this is a handful of bad apples.
I’m not arguing rebels should do nothing. I’m arguing they should not assault, rape, and murder innocent women.
Are you asking if I’d rape and murder innocent women if I felt aggrieved by a third party? I can confidently say that, no, I would not do that. Is that really standing on a moral high ground, or just not being a murderous, psychopathic, piece of shit?
So give them a solution they’ve never thought of before. I’m sure your internet degree is sufficient to convince them… I don’t have a better way, but don’t pretend like you do.
I am not claiming I have a solution. Far from it. I am in no position of authority or influence. In fact, it’s not my responsibility to fix the conflict. I am merely condemning the assault, rape, and murder of innocent people. I do not believe there is any justification for this.
I don’t understand how that is a response or argument. I agree with your description of events. I’m disagreeing with the response. Yes, they’ve been treated unfairly. No, beating, raping, and murdering innocent people is not an acceptable response.
There are many choices besides “nothing” and “murder innocent people.” Even if those were the only choices, nothing is better. Hurting innocent people doesn’t improve the lives of Palestinians. It makes them worse. It also hurts innocent people.
Sure I can. They turned to terrorists who murder innocent civilians. They should not do that.
I support them turning to rebels. I don’t support them turning to terrorists who intentionally murder innocent civilians. There is a large distinction between the two.
Open license software will never beat paid software in the consumer space. I know that’s a controversial opinion, but it’s been proven a thousand times. There’s no way to beat the user experience of Reddit when they have a hundred experienced UX designers doing nothing but optimising for engagement. We think the overall experience is worse, which is why we’re here, but we are the minority. Lemmy still hasn’t figured out basic problems like what happens to the user experience when an instance defederates from another. The user had no control over that, but suddenly their subscribed communities have disappeared without notice or explanation. Now they have to find another instance to subscribe to, and they lose their entire Lemmy identity.
“Pushing” their services is one thing. Blocking access to the NFC, as Apple does with iPhones, is much worse. IMHO, neither should be permitted.
Sadly not. Apple explicitly prevents payment apps from using the NFC. It’s blatantly anti-competitive and the DMA will soon open this up in the EU.
The price per barrel includes almost all those expenses, so inflation should be reflected there.
Right, which means that the inflation adjusted price of oil today is significantly lower than it was in 2008.
Both.
