It’s just in the hands of big unilateral corporate tech rather than a public state, and artists depend on IP laws to gain profits to live, rather than being supported by a robust welfare state to provide art for a robust public domain.

The second situation is a fantasy until after we have a communist revolution. So, don’t defend gen AI until after we create communism.

  • Could be that.

Could be big data. If you click a link to furaffinity on Bluesky, this change means they know your account visited that website, and they know you’re a furry. So they sell that data to Fursuits-R-Us. Then Fursuits-R-Us buys some feed priority with furry users, and now you’re seeing a lot of posts about Fursuits-R-Us. Ta-da, that’s the magic of feed-integrated personalised advertising. You get marketed to, and you don’t even know it.

You might think advertising fursuits is harmless. But what if The Heritage Foundation buy that data and that feed priority instead? Or what if a right-wing Twitch streamer just started a playthrough of Red Dead Redemption, so they pay Bluesky to promote their content to all accounts that are marked as politically naive Red Dead fans?

This is how elections are bought and sold.

Rogue isn’t making an informed decision. She’s just trauma reacting. If she were my patient, I wouldn’t sign off on a superpowerectomy until she’s made a proper effort to come to terms with her power and control it. Right now, she’s not fully of sound mind with regards to her power. She needs therapy before she can fully understand the choice she wants to make.

Storm is right. Rogue’s powers aren’t a disease. Rogue can’t control her powers because of mental health issues. The solution is going to therapy, not taking away her powers.

Imagine you have Tourette’s and can’t stop swearing. Is the cure to Tourette’s to cut your larynx out? No! But that’s effectively what Rogue is asking for in this scene.

Storm is a little bit wrong. There is something wrong with Rogue. But it’s not that she’s a mutant. Storm’s right about that.

I’m not an expert on the psychotherapy of mutants, but in most superhero media (eg Frozen), you have to accept your powers in order to control them. Storm is helping Rogue. Rogue needs to accept that her powers are part of her before she’ll be able to control them

Also, everyone should go listen to The Bright Sessions. It’s a podcast about a psychologist for people with superpowers.
