Yeah we have three branches of government.

Executive Judicial Legislative

The President heads the executive branch. The Legislative branch is split into the Senate (2 representatives from every state) and Congress (number of representatives depicted by state population size). (The Vice President actually sits in the Senate and can be used as a tie-breaker (101 votes instead of of 100 senators). The Leader of the House (Congress) is third in line for the presidency. The judicial branch is mostly known to be the Supreme Court but also contains the Federal Judicial Center.

Basically. For a law to exist you have to get a Majority vote from Congress and the Senate. Then the president signs it into law, or can Veto it. (If Congress has 2/3 vote the president veto would be overwrote). Same is required to amend the constitution itself (2/3)

Also if the people don’t feel representatives have gotten their issue to the floor there are petitions. If a petition gets a lot of signatures it requires a formal response by the legislature. During the Obama administration he opened a website called We The People that allowed signatures for petitions and if 100,000 signatures were garnered it was required to get a formal response. This website was shut down during the first Trump administration in 2018.

So the Judicial branches job is to review any bill being signed into law and ensure it is not in conflict with previous laws, or deemed “unconstitutional” which would block the law and send it back to the legislature requiring them to acquire a 2/3 vote to amend the constitution where it conflicts.

The legislative branch also holds the power to oust the President if they overstep. Essentially if over 50% of Congress believes the president should be removed they can impeach him. Which sends it to the Senate. (Most every president has removed themselves upon a majority of Congress but they aren’t required to yet). When it goes to the Senate they hold a trial. A 2/3 vote of the Senate implements the presidents removal. (The Republicans in the Senate did not vote to remove Trump, and thus they never had 2/3s of the vote and he refused to step down.). John Tyler and Richard Nixon both resigned before the Senate voted.

The President was picked specifically because he was a white male. Kick him out please

Not all apps, review/travel sites get a pass, and the decision is left to the president, which is a dumb way to do it.

Under the division, a foreign adversary controlled application is an application directly or indirectly operated by (1) ByteDance, Ltd., TikTok, their subsidiaries, successors, related entities they control, or entities controlled by a foreign adversary country; or (2) a social media company that is controlled by a foreign adversary country and determined by the President to present a significant threat to national security. (Here, a social media company excludes any website or application primarily used to post product reviews, business reviews, or travel information and reviews.)

Most millennials were born in the 1980s, smart phones didn’t come about until 2006+

Most of our lives were outside as kids. I got my first cell phone at 18, 2 years after I had already been working 40 hour weeks while going to school and my parents finally got sick of not having a way to get a hold of me. Comically their cell phone bill went down because the company I worked for gave them 25% of their bill when they added my phone so they didn’t want me to have a separate plan.

I still remember my mother calling me sometime that year and asking if I’d come to dinner and I had to tell her I was over 1,000 miles away because I flew to Boston.

Not sure that is true though. When I read the law it specifies that the President can choose to block ANY foreign owned social media site that they (as in the president) deems a national security threat. So Trump could in theory say ban RedNote tomorrow and it legally would have to be done. That said… he may be able to just say “bytedance is not considered a national security threat at this time” and that may be enough to let TikTok continue to be in the U.S.

I didn’t bother following the court case, what were they arguing, freedom of the press?

Multiple apps must have done so.

I don’t know enough about their language. Do speakers of Mandarin and Cantonese use the same alphabet?

From what most of the vaccines seem to be is a marker (protein used for such) on am entity they want destroyed. Tells your immune system if you see guys with a red x on their shirt, start taking them out. If you don’t have the vaccine they enter and no one knows the red x is bad. They start to run rampant and doing bad things until something done bad enough is recognized and they say, hey shoot the ones with the red x. In both scenarios the red X’s infiltrated your body, in 1, your body is able to start defending itself sooner and it lessens the damages caused vs what may have occurred if it didn’t know to start attacking sooner. (That does not mean someone’s immune system couldn’t be worse than someone else’s and still react slower… just faster than it would have otherwise)

I’m a bit bias right now because I tried to install PopOS on a partition last night to see if i could play with it and make a media server. My VPN client failed to install properly, corrupted the OS and when I booted back to the live disk (Rufus made USB) I was able to format the partition but no longer install to it. The boot loader no longer works and it can’t get into any OS now.

I have to say I haven’t had this problem before, but working in IT and installing Windows on over 10 thousand computers in my career, this has happened to none.

(I’ll try another installer likely and format the partition over and see if another bootloader like grub will take and fix the issue).

Edit: changed course and said fuck it… formatted the entire drive and so much for the other data that was there. Clean install maybe the VPN client won’t botch everything this time.
