  • It really is too bad that commercial solutions for true privacy focused syncing and wireless backups will only get worse if they were ever good at all. I think of products like the Ring Doorbell where there’s no reason the doorbell itself can’t be it’s own local server. The only reason to tie you to a cloud is to implement monthly fees while also harvesting your data. The idea of an open standard where multiple devices could connect to any cloud service (self hosted Next Cloud or commercial solution etc) will likely disappear with the direction we’re going. It’s a sad time for tech and an even more sad time for society worldwide.

  • He’s going to pressure rich people to invest in his scam coin using his presidential powerers to actually keep it afloat. Right wingers have consistently railed against politicians who make money while in office. While I completely agree that making decisions that directly or indirectly affect politicians business or other investments is unethical I know the right wing echo chamber will declare this a good thing for America. I already see political commentators and others with a voice using caution out of fear of Trump retaliation. They all but call him dear leader. I won’t be surprised if Trump is the richest person in the world by the end of his term. That is, if there is an end.

  • My aim is to replace Biden with someone who can actually win. Bidens team is on the offensive trying to claim he’s got the best shot but that’s a load of hot garbage. I think you’d be surprised at how many people voted for anything not trump last time around. This time around his cognitive decline has become so blatantly obvious that by even defending it you destroy the democratic party’s credibility and as a result become Trumps real enabler. The election will be decided by a few swing states and a small number of undecided voters living in those states. Telling them they are wrong about what the see and hear from Biden is gaslighting plain and simple. If democrats want to differentiate themselves as the morally superior party then lying out of fear isn’t a good look. The situation is what it is. The best chance they have is to replace Biden as soon as possible. Every day that passes decreases the nominees chances. Also, I really hope they hold a primary vote because just telling voters they get Vice President Harris makes this feel less like a democracy and will definitely alienate enough voters to throw the whole election.

Final thought, as long as we have a two party system nothing will really get better. The best we can hope for is not worse. It’s very telling that so many democratic congress people are afraid to challenge the party. If an elected representative is afraid to act on their conscience then it’s obvious we don’t have a real democracy.

  • No one is shitting on other people’s choices. They are criticizing a major corporations choices to skimp on specs while charging a premium price. Specs that can’t be upgraded and will absolutely lead to a shorter usable life. I find it odd that people get upset about criticism that isn’t aimed at them at all. The only thing I can think is maybe they realize they were ripped off after putting so much money into Apple products and they need to defend their financial decisions. Even then I don’t fully understand. I’ve purchased overpriced junk many times and don’t feel the need to defend the offending company. Maybe it’s because Apple has managed to make their customers feel like they’re in an exclusive club even though everyone uses Apple products these days. A publicly traded company is around to make money and nothing more. They should never be held in reverence.

  • If you choose to be a weak little quiet corporate Stan then that’s up to you. Apple is well aware that third party apps exist and they’re well aware that machines with less ram will need replaced far sooner than machines with more. RAM is cheap and Apples intigrated memory is no different in the regard. The only reason to use less is planned obsolescence. If you don’t believe that then you’re either Tim Cook or you’re an idiot.

  • Apple pitched the Vision Pro as if VR hadn’t wasn’t already a thing that’s been around for a while. While the VP has some higher specs particularly in its display it lacks in areas like field of view, comfort, game selection and portability. The first group of people that would be interested are those who already own or have used other VR systems. They those people won’t see the VP as such a jump. Especially considering it’s locked to the Apples app store with not many VR options. The second group is composed of people who have been out of the loop and think this is the begining of VR. I think thats the camp more likely to return the unit once they realize it’s just a novelty in its current state.

  • It doesn’t matter if you think it’s a stupid take or not. Focusing on one person here won’t change the fact that enthusiasm for Biden is already low. Telling someone they are stupid because they feel this way certainly won’t change their mind and will more likely solidify their position. I think we should be more vocal now about pushing for a different candidate even at this late stage. The polls already show Biden will not get the numbers he did before. The choice between not good and doom just isn’t going to motivate the masses this time. The sad truth is that Biden as the nominee is Trumps best chance at a second term.

  • The stock market and publicly traded companies. The idea that a business that is making consistent profits isn’t good unless those profits are increased each quarter is asinine. This system of shortsighted hyper focus on short term quarterly growth for the sake of growth is the cause of so much pain and suffering in the world. Even companies with amazing financials will work to push workers compensation down, cut corners and exploit loopholes to make sure their profits are always growing. Consistent large profits aren’t good enough.
