They’re only funny thanks to the Streisand effect. Xi barely looks like Winnie-the-Pooh and it’s not even that insulting of a comparison. I wouldn’t mind being compared to a silly ol’ bear. The Tianamen Square Massacre is only one of many brutal government crackdowns on peaceful dissent in recent history. If the current Chinese government didn’t care so much about suppressing this sort of stuff publicly, the jokes wouldn’t be interesting. If the state violence to silence speech wasn’t still ongoing, there’d be little of interest about it.

As much as these jokes can get tiring, saying that they’re stale or overdone isn’t true. The pain is still fresh any time a person gets crushed under a boot. Considering we’ll probably be dealing with this shit against the US empire in the near future, I think solidarity with people elsewhere couldn’t hurt.

I’ve seen many people in my own life feel the same way about criticizing capitalism too much. They agree that the problems stem from capitalism, but they feel like calling it out repeatedly is cringe. If I had to guess, it’s a combination of not thinking there’s anything to be done about it, and not wanting that negativity in their lives. It doesn’t matter if I’m just trying to vent; it really irks them that I cry wolf, even if there are indeed wolves taking from the flock.

My advice is to just ignore and let things run their course. If you truly just want fresh memes, just post them. Stop complaining about memes that are supposedly “good and important.” You’re only making the “problem” worse.
