It sounds completely natural to associate a language with the experiences you had in it.

Would it be weird to hate France if you went, had your luggage stolen, then got mugged, and then we’re diagnosed with cancer while you were there?

Humans brains are just association machines, and that language has associations for you. Maybe try to find friends in that community to make your own, positive associations?

People tuning out is why we are here. Pay attention as much as you can; it’s important to be educated and to participate in the process.

Making my decision to be childless caused me no stress. But it does, for some reason, cause stress to others.

Because they accepted the convention that they would be unhappy if they didn’t, and now have doubts.

The reality: life isn’t easy for anyone, and the choice you didn’t make is unfettered by the ugly realities of the details. So the people stressed out by childless adults are stressed about their own lives; not yours.

Point being: fascists aren’t stupid or inferior, and we need to constantly be on guard to reject the same instincts in ourselves.

Well this policy seems like a good way for them to nip that in the bud. Customer contempt is toxic to brand loyalty.

You start to feel badly for legacy tech manufacturers like Canon.

Then they do things like this, and suddenly I am happy to see them die.

You can’t treat your customers with contempt and not expect them to return the sentiment.

Your initial claim was that they couldn’t be measured that way. You’re right that they aren’t stored as bits, but it’s irrelevant to whether you can measure them using bits as the unit of information size.

Think of it like this: in the 1980s there were breathless articles about CD ROM technology, and how, in the future, “the entire encyclopedia Britannica could be stored on one disc”. How was that possible to know? Encyclopedias were not digitally stored! You can’t measure them in bits!

It’s possible because you could define a hypothetical analog to digital encoder, and then quantify how many bits coming off that encoder would be needed to store the entire corpus.

This is the same thing. You can ADC anything, and the spec on your ADC defines the bitrate you need to store the stream coming off… in bits (per second)
