Agreed. I haven’t gotten one of those mails in years, but it would be nice to get one if my cronjob was silently failing every day for a month.

Yeah, they even finally rebranded the YT channel last year so it is now Dropout instead of CollegeHumor. They are doing some interesting stuff currently (Gamechanger is almost always good), and all their old sketches and programs are there too.

I ended up getting a lifetime subscription, and it’s definitely worth it, but it’s not a replacement for YT entirely.

Dropout.tv has good comedy videos which is largely lacking from Nebula, but I find it buffers more often for me, which makes it uniquely bad among all the streaming services I’ve used.

But, I watch plenty of fan compilations / animatics for stuff on YT from my recommendations, and I haven’t found them anywhere else either because they don’t exist or because they don’t get recommended to me. It seems difficult for that kind of stuff to exist without free, easy uploads AND free, easy viewing.

Finally there are some people that primarily do Twitch that I subscribe to on YT. I’ve tried watching them on Twitch, and I prefer the content after their YT editor has worked their magic.

I vote red flag, since it’s sound like something I would do. (Definitely something I did in secondary school.)

I don’t know if LW is too big, but there is such a thing a too big. Ideally no single instance should have to use “federation-style” synchronization within itself. Below that size economies of scale might justify growth, above… not so much.

One executable updates the other and vice-versa. Like Robin Hood and Fryer Tuck defending one another.

I thought they had successfully converted around the time they got the infusion of funds from MS. I thought they were started as a not-for-profit, but were already shady-as-shit when they stopped publishing stuff under open licenses.

I think you can have a POV without having a body, and you can “be somewhere” based on your POV rather than your body.

But, I also think that probably not the only reasonable guess at what the uploaded experience is like.

If it is possible for the mind to survive the death of the body, I also think uploading would be fine. It’s a risk to be sure, but not having a body would actually address a lot of my current disappointments.

If resurrection is possible, I’d like to think the death could be prevented. But, I’ll take it if uploading is not available and death of the body is still inevitable.

Any parts that can be used to improve a human life should be used that way. Then any parts that can be used to improve animal/plant life should be used that way. Then the rest should be disposed of in the manner that consumes the fewest resources.

That rate seems high. But, I have done post-mortems on a bad developer’s run at a company, and found they did very nearly nothing. No commits, no issues opened or closed, some comments, but that was almost their entire digital footprint.

Most developers I’ve worked with are obviously not doing nothing, though some of us (including myself) get stuck doing a lot of work on a project that never makes it into production due to shifting priorities.

II think it’s entirely possible the world is fucked. Climate crisis won’t come during his 2nd administration, but the 4 years we lose in national and international regulation is going to make it impossible to prevent.

It’ll be slow, but before 2061, I expect the death of the global Internet, and global shipping, and most air travel. Electrical grids will fracture or fail and the pieces used for smaller (at most regional) grid. Cities won’t be able to maintain the sewer pumps, and Cholera will start killing people again. Gas lines will stop maintaining pressure.

I don’t plan on sticking around that long. My BP has always been bad, so I figure just indulging my vices will make this no my problem, and I don’t have a partner or descendants.

If you prefer not embracing despair, I suggest looking into how you and your dearest can survive without infrastructure. Local food production, local power and medicine production. Don’t count on supplies you can’t retrieve within a day of travel, and don’t count on the state to maintain roads. “Solarpunk” might be a good search term. Also, might prepare for unpredictable shifts in the local climate, like preferring indoor growing.

If anyone has data that says we can avoid climate collapse with no new national or international regulation before 2029, I’d love to hear it. Please.

At very least there’s an OCX for InteractiveHtmlView or some stuff. It’s how South Korean banks apps run. I think even the EU-specific “unbundled IE” versions still have that ActiveX / OLE control registered, though it might be crippled.

Although, he admits in the video to “faking” his footage of it working, by using a off-camera heat source. (His batteries were quite dead.)

But, as someone that lived through this time, they did work, as long as you pressed hard enough in the right places. It was hard to tell if the battery was dead or if you weren’t pressing hard enough

The whole reason I got on YT Premium was because it was free with Google Play Music. I have real issues watch non-Premiun now, because I’ve always disliked advertising methods. (Not so much th ads, which can be entertaining, but just being shown content I didn’t request instead of the content I did request.)

I also generally prefer a Condorcet Method (ranked choice, single winner) over mixed-member-proportional, but either one would be a massive improvement over our current system.

Most people never become auto-didacts. Most auto-didacts still benefit from formal training because above average gross performance can mask subtle mistakes until the mistake becomes root cause for a significant error.

Under significant pressure (like a well-written dramatic fiction, but almost never IRL), most doctors will be willing to perform a procedure without formal training, but under normal conditions, they know it is not worth the additional risk.

I, too, want something to replace Google Maps inside Android Auto, which is the main place I use it. I like live re-routes around traffic.

Did you try Organic Maps?

Depends on the pay differential and other options. I think it’s less useful for positions in my career, but it’s not an absolute no.
