  • What I’ve held onto post election is my city (Seattle) and state had really good outcomes for elections. One of the few places in the country that swung more left.

There were 4 initiatives on the ballot, all put forth by a conservative millionaire to repeal good laws. One looks like it will unfortunately pass (I 2066, to get rid of electrification initiatives for housing, which is a bummer) but the other 3 lost by a lot, including the one this article mentions. We also replaced our awful 3 time losing city council member who was appointed. And we passed our very necessary transportation levy. Not to mention our former AG, who was one of trumps biggest enemies last administration is now our governor.

The next 4 years will not be nice. But I’m privileged, happy, and thankful I get to be here for them

  • So the only part that is our responsibility is our backyard within our fence. Everything else is done by some landscapers once a week. I can’t recall immediately if there are exact rules on how our backyard needs to be maintained, but our across the way neighbors who we’ve become friends with have said if a lawn gets completely overrun in weeds some neighbors may complain but really most people in the neighborhood are pretty chill

  • I moved into a new place in May and have been having to deal with something I’ve never had before… a yard

It’s been a learning experience. And I want nothing more than to get rid of all the grass and do something more low maintenance. Neighbors have some creeping thyme in their yard which seems quite nice. That or clover. Also was left some planter boxes that have some sage growing in them that we’re trying to find uses for. And as a sort of house warming thing a friend of mine got me some carrot and lettuce seeds!

  • The alcohol sales part of this is really big. WA was the last state in the country afaik that didn’t allow strip clubs to sell alcohol. This rule change could have a huge impact on the money strippers make in a positive way.

Because clubs couldn’t sell alcohol, they tried to make their money by taking part of the stripper’s tips at the end of each day. Strippers wouldn’t be employed by clubs, but instead would be independent contractors the clubs would use. The strippers used to have to pay a set amount of money at the end of their shift no matter what they made in tips. This could lead to them losing money on the day if it was a bad day. The bill addresses this directly by making it the lesser of 2 options between a set amount or a percentage of their tips. But the alcohol rule could also see this done away with entirely now that alcohol sales will be part of the equation. Although I doubt the tip percentage collection will go away entirely anytime soon, it’s a step in the right direction.

The lewd conduct part of this is also a big win for the queer community at large, as it changes the rules that was allowing cops to raid queer bars in Seattle for bar tenders having a nipple out.
