I was being ironic. We have an egg marketing board, so prices don’t fluctuate very much. To be honest, I don’t really understand why us prices are consistently so much higher. Occam’s razor would suggest that it is Monopoly control of the market.

We usually buy our eggs directly from local people who have free-range chickens. We end up paying CAD $5 a dozen, about $3.50 US. In the supermarket, eggs start at about CAD $4 a dozen.

You could always come up to Canada and get yourself some eggs for the equivalent of about $2.50 US. Of course, the prices up here are high because we have a marketing board that limits competition.

It’s been a couple of decades since I lived in Japan, but I don’t know if they have experienced the same campaign against childhood violence that we have in North America.
