I use Borg to my nas, then rclone that to rsync.net. With Borg if you need the remote copy, you can interact with it directly.

You can, of course, Borg directly to rsync.net. You can also use rsync instead and let their ZFS snapshots do retention for you.

I would back up data (ie /home, /var, /etc) with Borg. If things break, just do a fresh install and restore data.

If a server, run it as a proxmox guest and snapshot the image on a schedule.

There are also things you could maybe do with ZFS.

I recommend Linux mint cinnamon.
