  • I haven’t read the book yet, so I don’t know if this scene is explained further (or if it’s even in the book), but one thing I’ve thought about lately is, how the Hell did they pull that off? Like, what made the Nazgul go to that room, instead of the one where the ring that supposedly calls to them is actually located?

The only thing that really makes sense to me is if the Hobbit Gang already rented a room for themselves, and the Nazgul got the info from the barkeep, who didn’t know they were with Aragorn.

  • I’m nearly done reading it for the first time. If memory serves, Bilbo attempts to be a sneaky burglar for the first time with the trolls, but accomplishes nothing besides getting himself captured, and the dwarves bagged when they tried saving him. While he’s laying in a bush, Gandalf does the voice trick, and reveals himself with the “the dawn will take you all!”

In the movie, Bilbo wastes their time by making pointless cooking suggestions, until the sun comes up just enough for Gandalf to break the rock and do the “dawn take you all” bit. Thorin complains to Gandalf that Bilbo got them captured in the first place, but Gandalf commends Bilbo for having “the nous to beg for time”.

So the movie actually moves the accomplishment from Gandalf to Bilbo

  • Someone else already said that Legolas’s involvement was created for the movies, but I will point out that Thranduil, Legolas’s father, is the Elvenking that imprisons them in the book (though he is not given the name Thranduil in “The Hobbit”), and Gimli’s relation to Gloin is also from the books.

So the meme stands to book lore if changed to, “the son of someone who…”

  • The reason they say this, is because using inspect element is going to give you a cleaner result 100% of the time with way less effort.

If you use an image editor, you have to worry about making sure all of the pixels line up properly, the right font is used, right font size is used, make sure that the margins are the same, if you make a small mistake you practically have to start all over…

Right click > inspect element > find the text block you want to toy with > type what you want > done. And it looks exactly the same as if it were part of the website, every time.

Different strokes, yes, but if I see someone cutting their food with a chainsaw I’ll at least make sure they know how a steak knife works.
