Older people rely on logic. And most interfaces are the opposite of logical.
Younger people have this idea of "press a bunch of buttons and once you see how it works, then memorize the steps ".
That’s the exact opposite of my experience.
I tried to explain Windows logically to the seniors in my family. This is a window. This is the taskbar, it shows your open windows. This is a folder, it contains your documents.
Every time we would start over with these abstractions which are supposed to make logical sense, the very foundation of Windows’ early success with casual users. None of it ever stuck with them.
They would instead write down every minor step to achieve a specific goal in a specific way, so they could basically control Windows without paying any attention to context presented on the screen. That’s the only thing that worked for them.
Honey’s base business model probably falls apart without some linkjacking. You go to a website to buy something and it says no no go buy it from these people instead.
That’s not what Honey does.
True even if your movement has pure intentions and is run mostly by capable idealists, which is rare in itself. Power corrupts.
As creator that makes some of their profits from affiliate links, I don’t see how that could be the case for him.
Seems more likely they had a reason to avoid beef with PayPal.
The issue is proving that it ingested the original copyrighted work, and not some hypothetical public copyleft essay.
Does XFCE today look any less late 90s than when I tried it 10 years ago?
“this may increase costs for the consumer” argument is flawed. It always implies they would have left profit on the table otherwise, rather than squeeze the system and everyone within it for as much as it’ll give and then some.
I was purely commenting on Apple silicon. As an owner of an M4 MBP I should add. The best chip in the world can still suck as a product if it’s held hostage in this fashion. 800 bucks is what Apple charges for 1.5TB added storage.
Hell yeah 800 bucks for a basic-ass storage option
Yeah it’s survivorship bias. We remember the high-profile cases when things like this blow up, but the odds for that are pretty slim.
I was hoping a horse was involved.
You don’t get to become a billionaire, let alone the wealthiest person on earth, without being a greedy fuck. Remember he never actually wanted to buy Twitter, only tried hard to spin the narrative after being sued into it.
“Banning” means making illegal in some fashion. That is very different from breaking phones.
He’d love to also milk it financially, but that’s actually really hard to do with Twitter.
You could say though as a capitalist he also gets a return on investment by manipulating public opinion in favour of conservatism.
Maybe they just never bothered to try.
Also while the platforms are similar, the users and thus the content are not just a smaller version of Twitter.
There is no mention of anyone breaking phones. Where the hell is this claim coming from?
Just like Angela Merkel’s upset remark “you don’t spy on your friends”.
Well yes, dear Angela, they spy on everyone. And it’s telling that the outrage came only because she was personally affected. The peasants’ data and personal lives are fair game.
It’s kinda telling that the single specific claim against “Palestinian groups” cited is that management didn’t prevent employees from discussing the war in Gaza.
The deodorant availability trauma is real and brings untold migrant suffering every year.
