In that same period, Bartkus’ rhetoric on alternative social media sites was dark. “I would not acknowledge reproduction as a human right, but instead as a form of rape,” IndictEvolution wrote on Lemmy.World in July 2023. “I am also not bothered by infanticide as long as it is done humanely…”

You can’t, and that’s the point they’re trying to make. Procreation is unethical because you’re forcing existence on people without consent.

It’s like a dumb philosophical thought experiment but some nutters didn’t realise how supposed to forget about it after philosophy class.

No, you’re not. This is from whence comes our responsibility to our children. You owe them everything because creation is such a violent, dangerous act, committed on someone without consent, with unlimited potential for consequential suffering. You’re not supposed to “forget about it” and pretend you never did that, you’re supposed to pay your fucking debt or not incur it in the first place.

And it does not matter if you create a baby or a puppy or a piglet. The animals we create are morally entitled to the exact same love and protection as our own children. People are easily able to forget all about that. And they are able to forget about their debt to their actual children just as fast. Which is why many people advocate against human reproduction. There is nothing worse to a social creature than being created when they are not wanted and loved.

Exactly. And realistically, they would need to be at least a teenager before they would truly understand what they’re accepting.
