Call me old fashioned but I really miss being a hoe (respectfully) for the sake of it. Then again I hate transactional relationships so OF and the like is a total mood killer.

On the other hand sex work is work so by all means get what you need to get by / thrive.

But it shouldn’t be everywhere. Some communities/subs are about people just sharing that they feel like, no ulterior motives at all. If that’s not what you’re doing, you shouldn’t be there

There’s a reason the original reddit community banned sales pitches, and took themselves off /r/all.

I’ve been a member on a website that’s quite well known in my country for over 15 years. It’s like adult Facebook where people post nudes and it’s all free.

Recently however people have more and more started using it for advertising their OF and what I find funny/interesting is how I can tell most of these profiles simply by looking at their pictures as they always have this certain “onlyfans look” to them.

I’ve never used OF myself but the feeling I get from these profiles is that it’s way too obvious that they’re doing it for the money. There’s a completely different vibe to someone’s profile who just wants to show off because it’s exciting to them.

People making content for NSFW subreddits makes sense to me now that there’s good money to be made.

I didn’t really understand the motivation before when so many people made regular content for internet strangers for nothing. Especially when so many of the comments are so sleazy and rapey.

Good. More power to them. Why should they do it for free? Because we’re entitled to it?

Besides that, they post exactly the same kind of content for their promos that the exhibitionists posted. You can see plenty of nude women for free on Reddit, just like the old days. The only difference now is that they also have a platform where they can sell more specialised content for anyone buying. Oh no, the horror. Enshitification is when sex workers have more power, apparently.

So it seems to me like what people are really complaining about is women having the audacity to not just give it all away for free, instead of just some of it.

Edit: considering that you can’t even discuss basic feminist issues on this platform without the pearl clutching and comment removals, I wasn’t in fact expecting my comment to go down well here. In fact, I literally expected pearl clutching over it. This place is predictable for this now.

I’ve actually been spending some time on Facebook of all places for the last two days. And the amount of feminist content and discussion that I’ve enjoyed there compared to my last month here has been something that I’ve sorely missed. I’ve even seen this particular issue discussed with a little more care. So even Facebook is actually a better environment for women right now than Lemmy.

Just remember that the next time you’re all freaking about bad Lemmy reviews posted elsewhere and looking for reasons. Blaming people for preferring le corporate platforms and calling them sheep. But not taking a look at all the angry neckbeards around here that make this place hostile for anyone other than angry neckbeards. To the point that it’s actually driven me to start using Facebook again.
