  • I hope to never use them against a person

Me too. The absolute last thing I want, again as a staunch gun advocate, is to ever have to use it in a real life situation for about a half dozen reasons.

I took a concealed carry class to get my permit some years ago, which I recommend even if your state doesn’t require a CC permit. They had a retired sheriff and a lawyer for two of the instructors, they went through multiple scenarios of both when do you use it and what will happen afterward. I NEVER want to have to fire a firearm in self defense, I will but I literally have to feel like my life or the life of someone else is in IMMEDIATE danger. Even then you run the risk of missing and hitting an innocent bystander, police typically only have a 70% hit rate across 2 shots (unverified, could be wrong).

  • God damn right! If you are new to guns though please go take a safety class first, the hunter safety course (even if you don’t hunt) is a wonderful intro imo, and typically free/cheap. Took it when I was 11ish and it did a great job getting me in the mindset of always being conscious of where I point the muzzle of my firearms.

All this is from a pretty staunch gun advocate too (although I am extremely open to and encourage discussions around how to regulate them a bit more).

  • The whole point of Linux is to tinker

Fair enough but the sole reason I went to Linux is because I despise Microsoft. I wanted a less bloated, not ad ridden, and more customized( mainly just the GUI) experience that gave me more control over my PC. Now I only use this PC for gaming and streaming, so really I just want those two things to work with as little fiddling as possible. Obviously everyone’s use case is different and immutable is definitely not a good choice for power users (from what I’ve read).

  • That makes sense, bazzite is referred to as atomic (that’s what I meant in the above comment about atomic being more appropriate, forgot to add that context though lol) specifically instead of immutable. Bazzite updates like you said and you can always roll back, thank you for the explanation!

  • Yeah I never understood the hate but today I did read a comment saying Canonical (the company that develops Ubuntu) had injected some amazon telemetry into one of the search functionalities, that and using Snap is what makes some people shit on it. I didn’t verify the telemetry thing FYI.

I can definitely understand people being upset at telemetry injections.

The above is to say I don’t think it’s exclusively people gate keeping, dome people have legitimate issues with it.I haven’t seen people shit on mint a lot and it’s an easy distro. Honestly most people are super supportive of mint. That being said there is definitely some amount of gatekeeping.

  • The system is really bad but you should also factor in the price while searching for schools, I went to a state University, one of the minor ones, and tuition was under 10k/year. So your son paid more for 1 year than I did for my entire degree by almost a factor of 2. Some universities are way more expensive than others. I got a STEM degree and was employed 2 months after I graduated, with a very prestigious research position. So it’s not like going to a shitter on paper school had an impact on me personally.

We’ve been having this discussion in the group I game/ play TTRPGs with. Like 7 of us total all windows, me and another switched to Linux, a third is a computational scientist who is forced to work with redhat frequently, and a fourth member was thinking of switching. After me and member 2 switched, member 4 saw that we had problems (entirely discord for me, all games have honestly worked so far) and changed his mind about switching because he doesn’t want to deal with stuff not working OOTB.

I can’t fault people who want that, hell I do, Linux is well worth it to me but I will begrudgingly admit there are draw backs to Linux.

  • I do agree with the old man yelling sentiment, but in fairness to the article it has ,imo, become a lot easier to get too high in the last decade. By that I mean becoming uncomfortably high. As a daily user for the last decade I smoke mainly because it has been the only reliable way to help me sleep I’ve ever tried, but I honestly enjoy being high as well.

I have issues with anxiety though and it definitely is really easy to accidentally overdo it. I’ve seen this sentiment grow in a minor portion of the community.

Luckily it’s a super super easy fix, add cbd bud. When I was reading scientific lit I saw many journal articles that discussed cbds ability to help with thc side effects. I don’t feel like digging them up right now.

  • As an organizer in my free time it’s hardly unrealistic to suggest other people do the same.

Im sure as someone who does it everyday you do think that

God forbid political power take work and time. Better to be ineffectual and rhetorically entrench the sociopathic status quo, eh

This is the largest point I’m trying to make the time and effort it will take cannot be completed before the election. I mean you even agreed:

Do you think this can be organized 1 before the election, 2 before the election with enough time to actually change things in it

    Your response was No.

Yes. This is how it has been for hundreds of years. People with less time and means did far more than this

Do you think every American agrees and will just jump on board?

And to defend the status quo.

No defending it I hate it but stop acting like it can change before the election, it is not enough time which is my point, not a defense.

How much time do you spend on social media, for example? Why not spend that time organizing meetings?

Couple hours after work, 10 mins before work, and while shitting. Drive times alone wouldn’t be meet with this time.

How on earty could you ever take credit for anything?

Don’t know what I took credit for but sure

Do you even live in a swing state?

Do you even live in America?
