  • Christ, do you understand how big this could be if anyone would let it? (they won’t)

Even a ton of “more environmentally friendly” textiles are as bad if not somehow worse than their already destructive counterparts. I ran the numbers once in an argument and a recyclable shopping bag requires a little over 70 uses just to break even with the comparable pollution it took to make it, but most people who even use them throw them out after less than 20.

God, I wish it said anything about how resilient it is as clothing in comparison to regular leather. I’ve known about the making of lab-grown ghost hearts and stuff through a similar method for a while now, but this never even occurred to me. I know next to nothing about bacteria, clearly.

Sadly, there’s still too much money in doing anything else, I’d bet. So many companies put too much effort into PR, greenwashing and general slavery to want to move over, and this would affect more industries than one.

  • When I get deeply emotionally attached to my data analyst, I might care if they’re moonlighting on the side. Sex, work or not, is still an emotional topic for most of the human race and it’s not new knowledge to anyone.

Enough that it would not naturally occur to me that “please do not engage in prostitution while we’re together” needs to be said out loud. I will casually ask if you’re monogamous and if you say yes, that’s how monogamy works.

Even aside from that, yeah, tbh, I would consider it good form to let your partner know you’re considering a new job regardless, just so they generally know what’s going on. If you have to hide it, maybe something is wrong.

  • Around me, in a mid-sized city? Anywhere from 25oz for $3.66 to only 8oz for $3.48

Laxatives seem to scale weirdly well, with a pack of 24 at $1.65 (sennosides - plant-based, gentle, hobby pooping) or 25 tablets at $10.99 (bisacodyl - synthetic, medically serious, competitive marathon pooping)

It’s not too horrendous if you really like prunes, although I’ll be totally honest and say I’ve spent decades almost always in the kind of financial position where that $3.66 could best be served elsewhere than on one single can of snack food.

Everyone knocks Little Caesars til they need to eat for an entire month on a single $20, and lots of people are just grabbing whatever is easy to get and the most filling so they can trudge back to their miserable hovel in peace.

But I wouldn’t blame something like a laxative shortage on a generic food desert. If you can afford one, it seems like you can probably afford the other. For once.

  • I personally would love to do almost all of those things. I wouldn’t want to do them as a job. There is an ocean of difference between doing something because it’s enjoyable and doing it because if I ever stop for any reason, I will starve to death in a ditch. Tends to kill the fun.

My ideal job would be chilling out as a professional student, splitting my time between large amounts of socializing and various crafting hobbies that are not stressful because my ability to live does not depend on them. Might even take up an instrument. Wouldn’t play it for anyone, I just like learning things more than I like anything else. Which is not monetizable.

Barring that, whatever allows me the most time to do so without making me miserable. Beyond the basic amount required to survive, life isn’t about money. Life is life.

  • Not even in compact view on kbin. For us, thumbnails aren’t automatically included in compact and I happen to hate both those things.

Lemmy is big enough that unless I did, there would be no getting away from seeing the same massive identical image over and over forever on all non-image posts, and any original photos would instantly become oases. Everyone would be forced to use those exact settings just to make it half-bearable. Fuck that.

Having just checked how this post looks on the logged-out lemmy site, this suggestion makes a hell of a lot more sense than it did, because this does not look to me like OP thinks it does, I assure you. I was all set to make fun of them and everything.

Really, it’s just a want to make the sub icon more visible. Whole thing seems kinda niche, but you could make it happen on a user level. Just not by forcing every post to be an image post, please god
