A lot of the folks who recorded on In the Aeroplane played and recorded in other bands like the Apples In Stereo, the Olivia Tremor Control, and there were heaps of other bands that played with 'em in Athens.

I do the same thing, but mostly because I develop Doom mods for fun and it’s just an easy place to dump sprites and audio files. I can drag a file directly from my desktop to the modding program I use, and then just clean up once I’m finished working on what I’m working on. Otherwise my desktop just has a few shortcuts.

It’s smaller than I was expecting, but in fairness modern smartphones are gigantic. It’s perfectly sized for comfortable usage of the keyboard, and is genuinely worth grabbing one if the interest and budget are there for it.

They’re shockingly useful today as a tool to manage ADHD, since they have a buncha organizational software baked into the OS, with plenty of other productivity apps still available for download off of PalmDB, without the connectivity nor distractions of a modern smartphone. I’m using a Sony PEG-UX50, which uses PalmOS 5, has a built in keyboard, and expandable memory (in the form of Sony Memory Sticks, cause Sony was addicted to format wars at the time.)

I use a 20+ year old PDA for notes and other general productivity/organization needs. Distraction free, keeps me off my phone, and a fun conversation piece. Handy for staying on top of my ADHD.

I will encourage ya to try making the effort wherever and whenever you can. Even just five minutes today can save half an hour weeks down the line.

I’ve a friend from high school whose parents are disabled and struggle with keeping up with the routine chores, and she herself suffers from bad depression and executive dysfunction.

Their house is in such a state now that we’d need to get our entire friend group up there to spend multiple days across multiple weeks to get it cleaned, organized, and fixed up. Flies everywhere, food rotting in the fridges, pet hair and dust everywhere, the works. It’ll be doable, but it’s gonna be a whole thing we gotta do.

Hope I’m not shaming ya here, I promise that ain’t my intent here - just hoping that our situation can inspire somebody else to prevent themselves ending up in the same spot.
