MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report) has been put on hold, for the first time in it’s 60 year history.

“On January 23, 2025, the CDC failed to release a new weekly issue of MMWR for the first time in the publication’s over 60-year history. The failure was a direct result of the second Trump administration ordering an indefinite “pause” on public communications by all branches of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. “Preventing CDC from publishing scientific data via the MMWR represents a radical departure from protocol that will undermine the public’s trust in the Trump Administration,” Jennifer Nuzzo, who runs the Pandemic Center at Brown University, wrote.[25]”

But yeah, it’s all cool. /s No IT’S NOT! I’m not sure how this can undermine public trust, if there wasn’t any to begin with. It only confirms that disaster will be arriving soon. And the Fed isn’t going to be much help. Work within your communities, mutual aid will be what keeps us afloat.

This is scary. Why would someone want to hide that specific information ahead of time? Also, that someone is a puppet of an enemy state and couldn’t have mishandled the previous infectious disease outbreak any worse. And last time, he disbanded the federal epidemic team before COVID came out. This is like evil-villain level foreshadowing.

If you care about your health or your family’s health, yall need to move to a blue state quickly and hunker down for the next 4 years. This madman is going to do everything he can to weaken and separate the union. We need to switch from progress to containment mode.

Well, there may be an imminent incoming pandemic, or it’s just normal fascism things, like turning off all public information and then whitelisting propaganda-safe data to be turned back on when it’s vetted. Can’t really tell which possibility is a worse sign of things to come.

          Could be any disaster:

          • turn off WHO
          • disband FEMA
          • disband Aviation Safety Committee

Now there’s no one left to say the administration handles the next disaster poorly

That’s what I can’t stand about these types of people. There’s never any definite anything because they are working on constant contingency, so one can’t prepare. You just have to be ready for everything at all times. It’s exhausting.

The whole “the cruelty is the point” thing is so foreign to me. It isn’t difficult to cause hardship with clean intentions. To cause intentional pain broadly and blindly just doesn’t make sense to me. And I can “devils advocate” and try to empathize fairly well (hard to know if that’s true without acting like a creeper).

So are any CDC staff working on ways to get word out on threats outside of the officially-gagged channels?

I would rather they don’t lose their jobs by doing so, but civil disobedience is absolutely called for here.

The word of a pandemic would spread regardless of CDC. When Covid started there where rumors in Europe (Jan 2020) of people dropping dead on the streets in China. By February there where videos of tourists in China going around with masks because everybody else was. A word spreads faster than a virus.

For those unfamiliar with this story:

On October 8, 2020, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced the arrests of 13 men suspected of orchestrating a domestic terror plot to kidnap American politician Gretchen Whitmer, the Governor of Michigan, and otherwise using violence to overthrow the state government. Some have labeled the attempt as an example of stochastic terrorism, where violent rhetoric by prominent figures inspired the plot.

A lot of people in Nazi Germany didn’t vote for it either, nobody remembers them as anything but Nazis.

Other countries don’t have the time or patience to be checking every fucking US refugee to make sure they have the correct politics.

Nope, we’re all going to be assumed to be just as dangerous as the rest of these fucking Nazis. Don’t get it twisted. It’s not their fucking job to do the legwork to figure out we’re not pieces of shit. Easier to just close the borders to dipshit Nazi Americans.

It’s like those sayings about if you have 9 Nazis and one regular person at a table you have 10 Nazis at a table or how about if you allow Nazis into your bar, soon enough it will just be known as a Nazi bar, because they’ll start to bring their friends once they’re comfortable.

Look, it’s not nice to admit, but because we’re US citizens, we’ve got a seat at the same table as these motherfuckers in the eyes of the rest of the world. They don’t see a table with half nice people and half Nazis, they don’t have the time or effort for that, they just see Nazis and I couldn’t blame them one bit.

48% of voters is an internal US matter and the USA is represented by Trump, who has already speed run to Russian level censorship, expansionism, hate, and authoritarianism.

The guy forces release of a low-confidence report blaming a lab leak and forbids the CDC from cooperating with the WHO in the same week. This is world-level abandonment, probably out of stupidity so that the US profits on drugs without considering that the USA is robbing the world of some of its best scientists.

Is there a non profit that can take over? Or a state(s) agency that can help out?

Just because the federal government decides they don’t want to do a thing doesn’t mean states can’t do it (or heck local community).

This is true, but it’s worth recognizing that a lot of the states, nonprofits, and local agencies rely on government studies and reports to make their own assessments.

With the government staying silent, it’s going to be more difficult to get a sense of what’s happening and what to do as a result. Not impossible, but the infrastructure isn’t necessarily in place, because nobody prepared for the federal government to be this adversarial to public health and safety.

Yeah, and like I said, it’s not impossible.

At the cynical end, there’s still business owners that recognize that having a slew of sick employees is bad for their bottom line, so even if the federal government does nothing, various businesses alongside the humanitarian groups will flex whatever influence they have to ensure governors, etc. do what needs to be done.
